How to connect a HP laserjet to my computer via Ethernet?

Hello,

I have a HP Laserjet 5000n with a jetdirect ethernet port. I connect from this to the ethernet LAN conector on my computer, but the OS (Vista 64-bit) does not recognise the printer.

What do I need to get the computer to recognise the printer, either hardward or software?

Many thanks for your helpHow to connect a HP laserjet to my computer via Ethernet?
you need a router or hub/switch. If you want to connect directly from computer to the printer you can't use the LAN connector. You will have to use either a USB cord or a parrell printer cable, depending on the connectors on printer and computer. To use the LAN connector, you will need at least a router to create a network and to assign the computer and the printer its own unique internal network IP address. How to connect a HP laserjet to my computer via Ethernet?
Check %26amp; ensure that the printer is compatible with Vista 64-bit.

If it is, load the correct drivers for the 64 bit OS.

Ensure the port is enabled in your BIOS.
To connect directly to the computer with a network cable, you will need an Ethernet cross-over cable. They are wired differently than regular cables. You will still need to assign the printer an IP address in the same range of your computer's IP address.

If you want it on the entire network, then you will need to use a router.

If you only want it connected to a single computer, it would be easier to use a parallel cable( IEEE-1284 ).
