If your HP Pavilion Notebook PC is fairly new and it does not have a parallel port then you will need to purchase a Belkin F5U002 USB to Parallel Printer Adapter.

Also FYI sometimes it can be tricky how to set up %26amp; run a USB to parallel adapter for WINDOWS XP PRO Operating System as I own 3 Dell Notebook PCs and once incurred problems getting them to print on my HP Laserjets %26lt;= I have 4 total: HP 4M, 5, 5N and one color HP 4550 and even Dell Technical Support could not resolve problem plus Dell Diagnostics said nothing was wrong.

Luckily BELKIN Technical Support came to my rescue and sent me one page of detailed instructions that required going to CONTROL PANEL, then SYSTEM then HARDWARE then DEVICES and dropping down to USB controllers where you should see one entitled USB Printing Support and hopefully it or any others do NOT have Yellow Exclamation Points %26lt;= that signify errors that need to be troubleshooted %26amp; repaired.

Oh! I almost forgot to mention sometimes for no unexplained reason just simply switching the cable to a different USB port on your Notebook PC can resolve your problem...

If you click and open the USB Printing Support, if you look closely it will say whether ';Device is working properly'; and down below it will also provide option to ';Troubleshoot'; as well as indicate whether ';USB Device is Enabled'; or not...

Hope the Above Info Helps! What cable (type) I need to connect a HP Laserjet 3150?
according to the HP site you have Centronic output on the printer. If you l/top only has USB you will need a converter from Centronics to USB

Some L/tops have the Centronic output on the as mine does.

The site only has up to XP drivers and does not list Vista
USB.
