How can I use JetDirect in a HP LaserJet with my home network?

I have a LaserJet 8150N with a JetDirect network card installed.

I also have a wireless router with 4 ports.

I am running an Ethernet cable from one of the ports of the router to the JetDirect port on the LaserJet.

How can I set this up so I can print to the LaserJet wirelessly? My laptop is communicating with the router, but it doesn't see the LaserJet.

Thanks. How can I use JetDirect in a HP LaserJet with my home network?
You're gonna need to setup a static IP address and subnet mask for your printer. You would probably have do this on the printer itself through the menu on the LCD display. The IP address needs to be on the same network with the same subnet mask as your computer.

(eg. if your computer's IP address is 192.168.2.20 amd subnet mask 255.255.255.0, you could make your printer's IP Address 192.168.2.50; subnet mask 255.255.255.0)

To look at your computer's IP address and subnet mask:

click START %26gt; RUN type CMD [ENTER] (this takes you to the command prompt)

type IPCONFIG [ENTER]

If you're not sure how to setup your printer's IP address, look in the maual.

Now you're ready to setup the printer from your computer...

To ensure your computer can see your printer over the wireless network, ping the printer. To do this go back to the command prompt and type PING 192.168.2.xx (where xx is the printers IP#) if it gives you a ms time, your computer can see the printer.

Next you need to install the printer drivers.

To do this in Windows XP:

1. Goto the printer control panel

2. Click ADD PRINTER

3. NEXT

4. Select LOCAL PRINTER ATTACHED TO THIS COMPUTER

5. Uncheck AUTOMATICALLY DETECT PLUG %26amp; PLAY...

6. NEXT

7. Select CREATE NEW PORT

8. Select STANDARD TCP/IP PORT

9. NEXT... NEXT

10. Type in the IP ADRESS you assigned to your printer and give it a name

11. NEXT

after that portion is complete repeat steps 1-6

then:

slect the port you just created and the rest should be pretty straightforward.

Good Luck
