How can I make a HP laserjet 5 print faster?

Printer shows ';processing job'; and waits while it begins to print several pages. Then it begins to print, then stop for several seconds before it begins again. It continues this through out the printing process. I can only print 50 pages at a time in order not to tie up the printer. It keeps doing it and gets worse on certian documents. I heard maybe adding memory to printer will speed it up, or is it the computer? How can I make a HP laserjet 5 print faster?
Yes, adding memory to your printer will definitely help speed things up, but you will still be somewhat limited by the speed of the interface and the complexity of the print job (especially if you are doing Postscript, if it is installed on your printer), downloading of fonts, etc.

The HP LaserJet 5 printer has four SIMM(Single In-line MemoryModule) slots. Use the SIMM slots to install

additional printer memory and printer languages (such as the Adobe PostScript language). For the HP LaserJet 5 printer, you can add up to 64 MBytes of memory (4MBytes are standard).

Part Number Size (MB)

C3130A -------- 1

C3131A -------- 2

C3132A -------- 4

C3133A -------- 8

C3134A -------- 16

Chances are you can find some old standard SIMMs that would be compatible. Best of luck. How can I make a HP laserjet 5 print faster?
You are right about adding memory to the printer that is what is the cause of your problem, lack of it.

I am not sure it the LJ5 can have extra memory but if I remember right it is HP memory that is needed. I have tried other memory in HP printers and it did not see it or work.
