I have an HP Laserjet 4L the fan seems to be making weird noises whenever I try to print a document.?

However, it fails to print out the document. I would like to fix the printer myself first before taking it to a specialist. Any assisstance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much.I have an HP Laserjet 4L the fan seems to be making weird noises whenever I try to print a document.?
Can you describe the noises?

If it sounds like something whines in upward pitch, then stops or you don't even have THAT sound, that's the internal transformer trying to warm up the fuser. If that's not happening, the fuser module is dead, and printer's worthless.

If you hear a bit of click/clack sound and the paper looks like it's trying to feed, but does not, you have a paper feeding / separator problem. Check fixyourownprinter.com and see if they have repair kits for that, or even search on eBay.

Though I agree with some of the comments... You can get a new HP laser for about $100, why bother fixing the old one?I have an HP Laserjet 4L the fan seems to be making weird noises whenever I try to print a document.?
First, I like to check the cartridge. If you change the cartridge and the noise is still there, then I try and diagnose where the noise is coming from.

It sounds like you've done that, however. The fan on the printer *may* be going bad. What I would do is to contact an HP Authorized Service Provider:

and let them know you think you have a fan going out. Check their hourly labor rates.

If you are more mechanically inclined and/or can find a service manual for an HP Laserjet 4L (a basic Google search should come up with a provider), you can find the part number for the fan and instructions on replacement. I've replaced the fan on this model printer before, and it's not too difficult; getting the case on and off is the worst part.

Good luck!
Fan type noise...no printing.. it's more than likely your laser has failed. Time to buy a new one...you can fix it..but the cost of a new laser unit way exceeds the printer cost. That's all I can offeer without more details and looking at it.

Or on the good side...your rollers are worn and/or dirty can be cleaned and the fan is also dirty and is out of balance.

You could take the fan out and blow it out with air.

Again this is only a guess since I can't inspect it. anddo not know what you mean doesn't print the document.
