Have a problem with my hp 5m laserjet printer?

ok, I know the printer is old - but it's been a workhorse.

It's doing continuous horizontal streaks, like hundreds, mostly very close together.

I changed cartridge but it kept doing it.

An error message (41.2) came up, but no idea what it means.

Any idea?Have a problem with my hp 5m laserjet printer?
With respect to localzuk... doing maintenance isn't going to fix it.

A 41.2 error is a beam detect error. In laymans terms it mean that the laser on the printer is going bad. There are 2 components that could be causing the problem 1 is the laser unit and 2 is the dc controller board. If you are handy or have a competent repair man the laser can be cleaned which may be the problem as well. Either way it will take a service call to fix. In all likely hood it will be cheaper to purchase a new printer.Have a problem with my hp 5m laserjet printer?
It is likely that you need to do a service on the printer - ie buy a new fuser, replace the old one and buy a maintenance kit, replacing all the rollers etc...

Should cost you about 拢50-拢60 for the lot in the UK if you look on ebay. And it isn't diffcult to do either, a few screws here and there and that's it.

However, it may just be worth buying a new printer now, as the printer is pretty ancient now. Something like the HP LJ 4000TN comes in at about 拢60 on ebay.
